Yes, AERC rides emcompass all levels of riding, but a pull rate for a 25 is much lower than a 100. This is because a 100 obviously puts more stress on the horse and the rider for that matter. Someone had posted that the completion rate should be 75%. A statement like that shouldn't be made if the average completion rate for all 100's that are sanctioned by AERC can't meet that criteria. How do you expect the WEC to have a completion rate of 75% when AERC doesn't have that rate?

The bottom line is the WEC is a race. Look at the big picture. These horses have come from all over the world, travelled thousands of miles by air, had a bit of time to adjust to the climate, feed, stabling arrangements, and numerous other factors and then race 100 miles. Not every horse is going to be able to compete at their best under those types of circumstances. Look at Argentina, they had a fantastic team and I believe each horse/rider team was out after the first vetgate. Their riders are incredibly experienced and exceptional horse people, so would someone suggest that Argentina can't have a team compete at Pan Ams or next WEC because they didn't finish a team? You can not compare the AERC completion rate to the WEC when you don't look at all the factors involved. I'm surprised someone hasn't suggested initiating an investigation into every single pull whether it's lameness or metabolic and then analyzing it and making a determination into whether or not that person is allowed to compete at the FEI level again. Perhaps AERC should do that, but then some on this board would probably start whining because some of the mistakes they have made would come to light.
