[RC] Automatic penalty debate - victoria thompson

First off, if this subject has been broached before please forgive me. I haven't been paying a lot of attention to this whole discussion because I see Kat regularly and pretty much agree with about everything she says regardless of the subject, so why bother reading other opinions (I'm a pig-headed fool that firmly believes I'M ALWAYS RIGHT).

Anyway, I was talking to my husband about the auto penalty for the following year in world class events and how it would work. Go to the vet check and it's determined you're unfit to continue, you get the penalty. Go to the vet check and tell the vet you think you're unfit to continue, if yes, no penalty, if no you can continue the race. What's to prevent every rider from going into every vet check saying I don't think I'm fit to continue, and then letting the vet say yea or nay, thereby circumventing the auto penalty.

To avoid the auto penalty I think the rider must officially pull first before going to the vet, and then just shrug their shoulders and go home if the horse vets out OK.

Tori
