Re: [RC] need a little help... conditioning Question - Don Huston

Hello Diana,
I too ride "just to finish". IMHO to figure out if the horse is ready just ride your 25 mile loop in 4hrs but walk the last mile in then check the pulse. It should drop to 60 or less within 10 mins of stopping. If so your horse is in great shape to do a 50 as long as you don't get caught up in the "race mode" which you have not trained for. Actually it reads like you have done an excellent job of preparing for your first 50. Good luck, cause it always helps to have some. ;-)

So how do i figure out if we are ready ?? The ride is Feb 10 .

My problem is during the week i can't ride that long. just for maybe an hour here and there.... is the weekend conditioning enough ??

We are doing a 5 to 7 mile trot right now....which is comfortable for me and him . We just want to finish :-)
