[RC] Skymont Ride - Jody Rogers-Buttram

Hello fellow Ride Campers !!

Well, we had some pretty good weather, a bit cool, but still nice for the Skymont ride held near Altamont, TN this weekend.    We did our usual thing of drive up late after work, but it is only 3 hours away, and for some reason, noboby ever parks in what I now call MY parking space.    Only took Joni and Cash Pony to ride, since I spent so much money going to the NC, my credit card and bank account are in real pain.  Jr. riders could ride for $40.....so I went to crew.  I must say that it was nice to crew....I never would have thought I could enjoy crewing.  But, when it was so cold that morning, and we had to roll out of the bed....it was nice to know that I could get Joni on her way, and then I could return to hot coffee and stand by the fire and visit.

I never knew it could be so easy to pack and carry only one horse.  Man, the horse trailer looked so empty!!!  Instead of the 12-15 horse blankets (and I am not telling one there folks), 10 buckets/tubs, four saddles, 100 lbs of feed, 4-5 bales of hay, three tubs of "extra gotta have misc. items", enough fence and post for 3-4 pens, an arsenal of elytes, probios, etc. and 2-3 EZup canopies.   I only had to take a fraction of this.  Makes for setting up and packing up in a flash.  Plus, nothing much to clean up when you get home.  Maybe people that take more than one horse to a ride should get some prize.

Angie McGhee and her daughter Josie took Joni and Cash thru the day.  Just wanted to get an easy paced 50 on Cash, and Angie and Josie's horses are just getting their "endurance legs", so was a great pace for him.  I think their ride time was something like 7:30....so just a nice Git R Done pace.

Angie and I have worked out a deal, where she sponsors my kid, and I sponsor her's from time to time.  Josie is planning on doing her first 100 in 3 weeks on my good ole loaner horse, Aries.    So, hopefully Josie and I will have a whole 100 miles to be yapping through if nothing goes wrong.

The ride management were as nice and helpful as always....since I didn't see the trail, can't say first hand, but Joni tells me it was the same and marked VERY well.   The trails there are great trails, good going and really nice starting place for a new horse.  So, if anyone out there wants to start out their new horse, put Skymont on the calendar.  Awards are pretty good too.  Joni (and everyone) received a very pretty, purple wind breaker pullover.  Too bad they didn't have smalls, so she got a medium.  Hmmm....I think it fits me really well. Crews should get something right?

Had the SE regions best in the vets.  Otis, Ken and Troy.  All the vets and PR people were helpful and accomplished at their jobs.  Then there was the dynamic duo timers....Nancy and her sister Jackie.

Another great SE region ride....see ya'll at the next one.

Jody, Joel, Joni and Cash Pony (who was very happy to get home and see his "girls")
