I use boots to compete in. I've seen too many horses complete rides barefoot and then end up really sore that night or the next day. I'm not willing to risk having that happen, so that's why I use boots.

Do you train totally barefoot - or in boots?

Both.

To answer this question:

I'm wondering just WHY you guys need to trim your barefoot endurance horses? (by barefoot - I mean as mustangs - not in boots)...

Chief went over a year being barefoot without a trim. We had a few weeks of wet sometime after that year and his hooves grew faster than he could wear them down turned out in the mud and he had a very small trim then. Generally the horses only need very minor rasping. The good thing with Chief is that at any point in time over the last couple of years I've been able to measure his angles and toe length and it's the same. It's really nice!
