Re: [RC] Barbaro - D'Arcy Demianoff-Thompson

When I went out to Delaware to see our Unanimous Vote race at Delaware Park I had the opportunity to visit Barbaro at Bolton.  My heart exploded with so much emotion seeing the way this incredible stallion has fought for his life.  The trust and compassion that he displays to the staff that manage him 24/7 is equally as incredible.  What I found most interesting is the manner and degree that Dr. Richardson (any relation Carla?) has worked with Barbaro.  I have never seen him so personally involved in a case.  Not that he is not equally as professional with each case he works with.

I have, on a number of occasions, had the opportunity to view first hand how Dr. Richarson and his staff have worked on race horses.  This is the first horse that I have seen, this staff treat with such a HUGE outpouring of emotional and professional commitment and still be able to perform it admirably.  Often they do not get attached due to the emotional stress and drama and distraction it can cause.  When faced with all the eyes of the world on your performance, with a horse that exploded onto the race world with a vengeance, one can only imagine the degree of stress this staff was under.  None-the-less, this staff came to the forefront, disregarded the press and notoriety, and committed themselves to a task that would have been hard for any staff to perform without untold amounts of stress.

I believe that Barbaro felt every one of their hearts and it gave him the desire and ability to heal.  I was amazed, as well, with the amount of cards, carrots, apples, flowers, handmade get well cards, and pictures that flooded the New Bolton area.  It reminded me of the PharLap days (if you haven't seen that movie I highly recommend it).  It is not often that the world comes to their knees for a horse.  It gives me hope for the future of this world when, in ones lifetime, one is able to experience and witness this kind of human kindness towards an animal, first hand.

Our racing heat is done in Delaware.  I don't know if Barbaro will still be at New Bolton when our heat starts up again.  If so, I look forward to seeing him - he is MAGNIFICENT!  Plus I want my Astra (my Mom's old lines) bred to him!  However, please don't let the Arabians know!  They think she is a really ugly Arabian!  If they knew that she was not one of them they may not like her any more!  LOL! :)

Fabulous news - thank you, Diane, for sharing it.  I was just wondering
about Barbaro the other day, and was afraid to look him up on-line.  I'm so
happy it's good news.

What a horse, what a team of veterinarians that saved him!  And thankfully,
he has caring owners, as well.  I'm one of Barbaro's many fans from afar.
