RE: [RC] Tying to Trailer = vanished? - Smith, Dave

Maryanne:

As a man, I resent the implication that members of my gender have
trouble mastering the Object Permanence Developmental Stage. If I can't
find the mayonnaise in the front of the fridge -- where everyone knows
it belongs -- I don't go and open another jar. I do what any other
husband would do. I call my wife for help.

That's the thing. Object permanence is one of Piaget's developmental
stages and something that most kids get by 2 or so....although I
swear many men never really seem to get it. If they can't find the
mayonnaise at the front of the fridge, then it doesn't exist and they
open another jar rather than search for something that they don't
believe exists.

I have dogs that have figured it out and some horses who
have...likewise some show no signs of getting it. My large parrots on
the other hand have it down cold.

Is it no wonder that some horses have anxiety attacks when their

this, but some don't.

I like your analogy. One thing though. Even a two year old child
knows the difference between his parents vanishing when he covers
his eyes and his parents going out for the evening. Ask any
babysitter :)
