[RC] Be Carful What You Wish For - k s swigart

I would like to see the RM put on a ride without
the revenue of the LD riders.

To which, I can only respond. Be careful what you wish for...

The unintended consequence of saying that you would like to see ride managers
put on rides without any LD riders is that they may actually decide to do it.

The unintended consequence of asking the AERC to "standardize" every minute
detail of any sanctioned ride and not allow ride managers any latitude in how
they put on their individual rides is that those ride managers that don't care
for the imposed standards will just stop managing rides.

The more the AERC standardizes the requirements for competition, the more
chance that some ride managers will pick up their marbles and go home.

There are lots of things the AERC doesn't require ride managers to do and some
that the AERC does require. To date (I hear that this may change), publishing
completion times for LD rides has been one that it has not required.

The problem that amber appears to have is not that the AERC has not
standardized the requirements for LD rides, but rather that she doesn't like
the standards the AERC has chosen...because they are not strict enough for
her????

One ought to be careful about wishing for strict standards as well. They, too,
are something you might regret after having wised for them.
