Re: [RC] AERC Championship: 50 Mile Information - rides2far

Why are they starting the 50 in the dark? The weather's cool...plenty of
time to finish...what's their motive? They could easily start at 7:30 and
have 12 hrs. of daylight!

The AERC 50 Mile Championship ride will start at 5:00am EDT tomorrow
morning. The start will follow the same path as that used by the 100
Milers on Friday. There will be approximately 78 starters tomorrow
morning in the dark (sunrise is @7:30 tomorrow). There is a new
twist in the first (23 mile) phase of the ride. There will be a
"pulse&go" at the nine mile point (at Edinburg Gap) 9 miles into the
ride. All riders will have to reach pulse criteria (which I assume
is 64) before continuing on. It will be dark.

Tom Sites is our man on the trail - he will be calling in info as
also crews for 3 riders. Anyone else, as usual, who hears anything
is welcome to pass it along!
