My husband's rule of thumb is similar, but he won't go to a ride that takes more than one day to drive to, and then he likes to ride 4-5 days in between getting there and coming home. In other words, he likes multi-day rides that take no more than 1 day to access. I can't blame him. We have a business and a ranch to run, and we don't have the luxury of taking that much time off to drive.

I can't speak for everybody, but many of the riders I know from around have a general rule of thumb with respect to attending rides. The number of days of riding has to outnumber the number of days of driving.
