[RC] Any advice for a shoulder injury? - Suzanne Boyd

I first noticed my mare had a shoulder injury about 2 1/2 weeks ago. It didn't seem too bad, maybe a grade 1. No cuts, just some very slight swelling and heat. I figured she got kicked. Which if anyone KNOWS my mare(Ruby),,,she probably deserved it. She seemed fine about 4 days later, so I rode her for about 2 hours, all at a walk and trot, but it was *very* muddy. (I live in Ohio) Later that night and the next morning she was stiff. I put her on a gram of Bute every other day. A week later she was still lame, more like a grade 1 to 2. VERY noticeable when ridden or lounged(how is that word spelled anyway??) to the right(right shoulder). She has now had another 5 or 6 days off. Tonight she looks like a grade 3. Even the non-horsey neighbor called to say she was lame. She has been on pasture turn-out this entire time, as that is what she is used to, and I thought it best for a shoulder muscle injury. I'm going to call my vet first thing tomorrow morning, but I'm wondering if anyone here has any thoughts/advice about this? I'm thinking the vet isn't going to be able to do much.

Thanks for any insight.
Suzanne
