When a whole bunch of tires go bad at about the same time I would suspect 
their age
is more of a contributing factor than the load range.  After about 5 years 
you're 
skating on thin ice--even with load range z.

agreed on tire age, but in my case, the trailer was 2 yr. old at the time. It 
was during the transition (1996 model as I recall) when larger trailers were 
being placed on Load Level E tires) - The running wgt of the trailer was 
12,500# on the back axils (8000# on the rear truck adn #5000 on the front truck 
axils).
