[RC] finally, an end to illegal fees - alexis_mills

National forests, unlike national parks, are public lands, and the FS (which is different from the Park Service) never had any right to charge for simple access. Developed campgrounds, yes, but simply to drive a federal highway and hike a trail, no. The Forest Service tried to designate Mt. Lemmon/the Catalinas (near Tucson) as a National Recreation Area years ago, and when that got shot down by local activists, they found a way to charge fees anyway. This has been a long time coming, and I'm grateful to those who challenged the illegal fees and won.
