Almost all of my mule packing friends use a breeching instead of a crupper. Many claim that the wonderful smartness of the Mule* allows them to flip their tail out of the crupper. The rest claim that cruppers work fine on Mules. All agree that one has to readjust the breeching before and after long down hill sections of trail. Seems like a lot of bother to me, but it is probably a good idea to check a string at the top of a pass anyway, so this is not a real problem.
