Re: [RC] Introducing your horse to a crupper - Marirose Six

Howdy Beth! The best way I know to get started with a crupper is to put it on & then longe them with it at all gaits. Also, feed them with aith all the tack on, putting the head down to eat will simulate (slightly) the pull of the crupper going down a easy hill. Once they are comfortable with it, ride on!      Marirose

Subject: [RC] Introducing your horse to a crupper

Having recently started conditioning on some rather steep grades in north Texas (it's not "*all" flat in Texas, you know!), this recent thread on cruppers has caught my attention.  I *always* use a breast collar, no matter what the terrain is.  This crupper thread makes a lot of sense, for the same reason as always using a breast collar.  Thanks guys!

Now:  How in the heck do I go about convincing my horse he will not die of terminal goosing?  "Introduction 101 to Crupper Use" please!

Thanks, Beth
