[RC] Namibia vs. Bryce contrast - Jonni

Jo Anne Rudolph Posted: >>>Got on ridecamp today. Looked at pictures of
Namibia and 1st day at Bryce. What a contrast in country and terrain. Read
someone's post about "not carrying water in Namibia." Went back and looked
at pictures again. Nobody was carrying ANYTHING, except themselves, saddle
and pad. Back to Bryce, and everybody looks like traveling gypsies with all
their pouches, saddlebags, sponges, water scoops, etc, etc, etc. Wow, more
contrast!<<<

I'd guess the biggest contrast is "how" each of these rides is viewed and
ridden. For the most part, those in Namibia are there to 'race", and I'd bet
they see crews or some sort of aid station / vet check very often. They ride
faster, so they don't need to carry much, as they will see someone who could
assist them very soon. Bryce, and some of the other multi days, you have 1
(yes ONE) vet check/lunch somewhere around 1/2 way. Most riders ride to
finish, and have a horse to go on the next day, and often the next, and the
next. They need to have with them, what ever they feel they might need along
the trail, as someone to assist them will not be seen very often, except in
the form of another rider. Those riders are often out there the whole
allowed time. Both are endurance, just different. Some would say this is
the difference in endurance RACING, and endurance RIDING. Something for
everyone.......
