Re: [RC] ground control - Dyane Smith

Thanks to Jen, Jody, Heidi, Karen S. and Ed for your questions and comments.

Well, I have to really look at the coronary band to see if I can determine much about how level he is.  However, the same shoer trims him whether he is shod or barefoot and when he is barefoot he flies over my pasture that is amply pockmarked by ground squirrel holes and never hits himself at all.

He is getting used to carrying a rider, but he has fallen to his knees when being handwalked.  I didn't see him clip himself, but based on my recent experience, I wonder if he didn't.  He really reaches up under himself but unfortunately does not step around the front feet like my old horse.

jody and others,   gorgeous george was wearing ground control shoes on the front feet when he did the tevis. we chose to put them on the front because he would occasionally overstep and pull a steel shoe off, but if he overstepped the ground control, it was kind of like stepping on the back of a flip flop.they worked great. oh, and he had steel shoes on the back feet.  i am sure there are others that used ground control shoes out there.
for the lady who first asked about this, if your horse is interfering so much that he is beating his fetlocks to a bloody pulp, can you tell us more about how he is trimmed?  if he is doing this while barefoot, then you may need to change the way he is being trimmed.    cowboy ed
