RE: [RC] Arabian Definitions - heidi

It is unlikely that my children (if I had any) would end up in a kill pen if they can't do the job.

But Bob, you have not heard our family discussions of the unfortunate outcrossings in our extended family pedigrees, either--since they are not relevant to endurance.

Heidi

All this traffic about the breeding of horses and the proper selection of lineage reminds me of the comment "They worry more about the breeding of their horses than they do of their children!"

Yep.  And a pedigree not all that dissimilar to Persik's, minus the French portion.  *Witez II was his grandsire, and he was 3/4 CMK, very similar to the pre-WWII Polish breeding on the topside of Persik's dam and the Crabbet breeding on the bottom side of his sire.

Additionally, speaking of mare lines (John??) Witezarif's dam produced two other top contenders--Tevis/Haggin winner El Karbaj (by Kosckiusko) and AERC National Champion Law-Thunder (by Al-Marah Thunder).  Furthermore, all of these were bred by people intentionally breeding for endurance horses (Hyannis), which John would have us believe does not happen in this country.

Razifa's daughters went on to produce more top contenders--John may or may not remember Roger and Sara Miller's good old stallion Prince Kosghal, whose dam Ghalifa was out of Razifa, and who was a Jim Jones winner.  If I had time, I'd go look up some of her other grandget that excelled, but I think the above kind of makes the point.

(Just a comment--Kosciusko was a great horse, but I always thought that it should have been the mare Razifa that got into the AERC Hall of Fame, because she was REALLY the one that put Hyannis on the map.)

PS:  Witezarif won the very first endurance ride I ever did--the Virginia City 100 in 1973.

----I'll bet many of you
oldtimers remember WITEZARIF, quite a horse.
