[RC] Jen's Mom - Bruce Weary

Jen-- I was moved by your Mother's story. Please tell her I said, "You Go Girl!"
It occurs to me that in addition to medications having a pain relieving effect, there are also physical locations on our planet where it is nearly impossible to actually feel pain. I'm told (as I can't yet speak from personal experience) that one of those places is the final hundred yards or so that approaches the Tevis finish line. Rumor has it that this phenomenon exists at or near the finish lines of many 100 mile rides around the world. It has even been reported by riders at lesser distances. The effect can last for several minutes or even days. Some feel the euphoria for years afterward simply by having a "flashback." On the other hand, the pain can come back quickly with a vengeance shortly after crossing the finish line. I always keep a couple ibuprofen on me and a beer cooler nearby, strictly for medicinal purposes. Damn HMO never wants to cover it, though. Dr Q, who's motto is "No pain, no pain."
