RE: [RC] [RC] Other nations and endurance - Daniela Desilets

Heidi said .... ? "I for one sure wish we had made the conversion years ago.? We do metric money and metric arithmetic--it shouldn't be all that tough to get used to the simple concept of doing other things in Base 10 as well."?

And Joe said ....

"The gummint" did a poor job, as
usual. ?The PR ads made metric sound
more complicated than
English units, when they are in fact much easier
to use. ?It is
only the unfamiliarity of metric that scares people."

Well, I must admit I don't have to do much "real" conversion, but up here in the great white north we deal with both systems of measurement all the time. I know that 55 mph is just about the same as 90kph. 20 C is about the same as 70 F. One pint is about 500 ml, and a quart is a little less than a litre. Sure, we don't necessarily know the *exact* measurements and differences, but it's easy to get the rough idea. I am only 39 and have had to deal with both systems my entire life (metric became standard about half way through school, up in the northern parts where I live). Metric is WAYYY simpler than imperial.
