[RC] Cougar Rock - Bruce Weary DC

My one and only experience in going over Cougar Rock was a memorable one, and not without benefits. It was 1994, my first attempt at Tevis (or any other 100 for that matter) and I had decided a mere two weeks ahead of time to try it (I didn't want to make the mistake of overpreparing). When I asked my horse, Thor, to go up, he fell down twice, once to his knees, and once to his haunches. In terrified desperation, I spanked him with my tailing rope and he leaped at the last possible moment and took us up and over. I felt an odd sensation of fullness in my shorts, but thought nothing of it. Word must have gotten around about our glorious feat, because for the rest of the ride, I had every water tank, P&R line and vet all to myself, I presumed as a reward for having done so well. I must have been running on adrenaline all day, because all that saddle time just seemed somehow "softer" after that.
Go figure. Dr Q
