As a teenager, I had a Morgan mare.  I used to ride to the beach near my 
home, pull the saddle, leave it on the sand and ride into the ocean and swim 
along parallel to the beach.  It was such fun!  I think if I knew then what 
possible harm could have come from swimming in the ocean, I would have been 
afraid, but I was clueless and happy.  A friend rode her QH mare into the 
ocean and the mare struck out for China.  She finally got the mare turned 
around and back ashore, but she was scared for awhile.
