[RC] WEG Selection - rides2farOne thing to note, is that when we go to the Championship FEI events, we are actually leasing our horses to USEF - at which point all final decisions regarding the horses are made by USEF staff (vet, chef d'equipe). Whoa. That is soooo wrong. And just think...even if you decided, "OK, I know that chef and trust him/her"...then spend all that time and effort to qualify...they may just change the chef d' equipe the last minute to someone you're not willing to trust. Heck, they could replace Val next week so who's to say who'll be calling the shots with your horse? I know a rider who won a medal in the Pan Ams whose chef wanted to inject the horse's hocks like 2 days before the ride and she refused. I've seen other chefs change a horse's angles a couple of days before and the day after the ride the horse could hardly move and had to be laid off for months (a problem it had never had before). The people who are on the staff are more often than not people who nominated, but their horse didn't make it that far...something went wrong. They have an overwhelming urge to participate. Who would want Jeff Gordan for a backseat driver? Why take the decisions away from those who got theirs there and give it to those who didn't? I really feel for those who are at the top of their game right now and have to either take this or leave it. Lets just hope our staff respects what we could consider the owner/rider's right to make a decision..
