RE: [RC] twisted guts - heidi

While I suppose there could be a bit of truth in it, I'd suspect that any tendency for them to be more prone to twisted guts is more apt to be due to the fact that they are more often in situations where they are fed high concentrate low forage diets and have inadequate turnout time, so that they do not have adequate gut fill and gut activity, coupled with a general lack of fitness.  No studies here--just what I'd tend to surmise from knowing how equine guts work.  A gut with proper tone is far less apt to twist than one that is a bit on the flaccid side.

I have been told that warmbloods ( ex: Hanoverian, Trakehner ) do or can twist while rolling due to having an abnormally large abdominal cavity. Is this true, or wive's tale ?
