If someone wants to spend say $5000, I will put thermocouples under shoes, between shoe and foot, and in the horn and measure the temperatures. For another $5000, I'll do real time data aquisition so we can get the measurements at various speeds. The Bittterroot any August is great. We have bright sun, all kinds of roads, high temps. This type of data collection is a piece of cake. Did it routinely in an industrial setting. It is actually easier than measuring the temperature of carpet in a dieing steamer. For that we used the gizmo's canneries use to make sure your canned peas are processed properly.

The only problem is: Who cares? We normally do not do endurance rides on blacktop.
