[RC] Barb Peck's reply - Barb Peck

Hi Cindy:

A false sole is made of sole material (tissue)-
mostly dead, that depending why it got there in the first place, will
eventually need
to be removed.

On a normal foot they grow with a slight cant or angle to the outside, and if
the bars grow too long,
(not naturally be abraided down, or trimmed)
they'll can actually lay right over and eventually the foot will look like
they're not there, when in fact they're bent right over and on top of the sole
material.

The bars are a continuation of the wall (and the same tissue as the wall) and
they are
a completely different tissue than the sole. They support the heel and allow
for expansion and contraction of the heel. When shod, a good farrier won't put
a nail too far back, and will leave shoe room for heel expansion. (Angies
requirement to run a dime or nickle on the outside rim near the heels) and will
properly trim the bars.

Barb, thanks, but what is the difference between false sole and bars laid
over...I'd like to understand. Cindy
