Re: [RC] [RC] Why do Thoroughbreds need shoes? - Diana Peterson

Slippage ??

Then why is Clinton Anderson putting on hind shoes on his Reining horses so they slide better. His horses are trimmed by Pete Ramey. He is also a Barefoot trimmer ....one of the finest. I may say. I took a clinic with him ...very informative.

Especially at the speeds they are going. There is some slippage when the foot hits the ground and when it pushes off. On a hard base sand covered track that just takes off hoof. The second reason I suspect is traction. They want to minimize the slippage - since it represents a loss of forward energy.

and as you know, tracks are frequently VERY hard. I bet excessive wear is one
of the big reasons.
