Re: [RC] Barefoot - Sarah Cavitt

A couple of reasons:

1. If I hadn't stated my bias, then the barefoot side would assume I was anti-barefoot and posting to slam their choices. I'm not.

2. If everyone were completely neutral toward both shoeing and barefoot and approached it with "What's best for my horse, short and long term?" that would be ideal, but that isn't reality. People ask that question, but they approach the answer from a bias based on their past experiences, education, opinions of people they respect, etc.

Your question also suggests that some of the posters don't have their horses' best interest at heart. I sincerely doubt that. Whether they all make the decision you would make is irrelevant. Based on THEIR experience and education, they are making the choices they think are best for their horses.

People can get so caught up in an idea that they get blinded to alternatives and can gloss over downsides even in their own minds, but I don't for one second believe that anyone, even someone in that position, is INTENTIONALLY disregarding the welfare of their horses just to promote an agenda.

That doesn't mean they're "right" or have made good choices. But there's a heck of a difference between having a bias and making a wrong choice and intentionally disregarding the welfare of their horses.

How come this is always pro-barefoot or pro-shoeing. How come the discussion is never pro-horse. How about doing what is best for your horse, not in promoting some ulterior motive that the human has?
