[RC] OT-horse wormer question - Jackie Causgrove

Hi all,
I am wondering about horse wormers.  There I live (in Alaska), there is a debate on what to give a rescue horse.  She had foundered, was significantly underweight and had a worm load.  The mare has been under vet and farrier care and is recovering.
However, the person who is doing all of this care wants to give her Diatomaceous Earth for a wormer.  The thoughts are that it is natural substance and that she doesn't wish to give the recovering mare anymore chemicals.

Others have advised her not to but can not come up with a solid, sound reason.

This woman who is caring for her has done a wonderful, expensive and time consuming job with this mare.

Or is there any other non chemical wormer known to be effective (and not an old wives tale).

Thanks for any information/input

Jackie
