Re: [RC] little river cannon. link - indiancp

when asked another list answered: Shoes or boots are recommended as many of the trails are chirt/gravel roads, but some of the trails are nice sandy trails. If your horse has great feet, you might be able to do it barefoot. I have not been in several years, so the roads could be really packed by now or they might have added more gravel if there were any muddy spots.

This is not one of my favorite places to ride, but it is really nice to go at least once. There is a place called High Rock and where most folks have lunch. It is an overlook of one portion of the river that is said to be 30 feet down to the water and I'm told it is 90 feet deep. My son-in-law jumped in one July day and said it was a looooong way down, but it didn't stop him from doing it again. LOL It is good for a day ride and only 17 miles from me.

The check in station has room for about 4-5 trailers depending on the size and how people park. There is also parking on the other side of the river at an old church, again 4-5 trailers depending on size and how people park. There is one more trail head at the northern most area, that can accommodate about 2-3 trailers. Many of the locals just park on the side of the road, not my favorite place to park, but is doable (or at least it was the last time I rode there).

i asked about hills and she said there were two but that they didn't amount to much. was kinda surprised at that. it IS a beautiful area and the pictures she sent looked fantastic. doesn't seem enough parking for much of a ride. another said:
The horse trails are actually above the Falls, above the canyon, so it's not as steep as you might have thought. Now riding down by the Falls.... I'm not sure you could even get a horse down there! But I have seen an old photo (1880's) that shows two people on horseback standing by the Falls.
