Re: [RC] Barbaro Update - steelsidedown

I do agree, these people clearly show compassion and the "right attitude". But dollars always come into play somewhere. If he can manage to produce one small foal crop, he would earn more than he has in his racing career.

His sire Dynaformer gets $100,000 stud fee http://www.threechimneys.com/stallions/ (note Smarty Jones is also standing at that fee)

I hope this horse gets to the breeding shed. His spirit, alone, is enough
to hope that his genes will passed on.

And for what it's worth, I agree with a previous post that Barbaro's owners,
trainers, and veterinarians who are fighting so hard to keep this horse
alive, are not "in it" for the money. I believe they care deeply for this
special horse.

I've wanted, for years, for the horse racing industry -- not just TB, but QH
racing also -- to wait another year before they start training and racing
the young horses. Not only that, but the jockeys need to have consideration
as well -- the strict weight requirements for jockeys threaten their health.
If the horses were a year older, they could handle the extra weight of the
jockey better, couldn't they?

A more light-hearted story about Barbaro.
