Re: [RC] TB Racing, Soundness, Speed, Hooves - Truman Prevatt

Not a lot of competitors is the problem. That's what killed it in Tampa. The only place to race in the East is Delaware Park. The number of starts is way down to what it was 10 years ago. It took off like gang busters then fizzled. I think part of it may have been the middle Easterners getting interested in TB racing and giving up on the Arab racing.

Ten years ago Tampa had Arabian races with full cards. When they couldn't get more than two or three entries they just dropped it.

I think the AHA has some problems and has missed the boat in a couple of respects. First is Arabian racing. Horse racing has been losing popularity over the past 20 years. It's a generational thing with the current young adult not caring much about it. The downturn in racing popularity was not the time to introduce a racing program for Arabs. There weren't many new fans and you weren't going to take away the TB fans with horses that ran a lot slower.

Next they wrapped themselves around the show world. While the AQHA and TWHBEA sold their horses as the "worlds greatest trail horse", supported trails conferences, advertised in trail riding publications and growing in numbers like gangbusters the AHA was promoting itself as a show horse and race horse with numbers and membership declining.

But that's just one person's opinion ;-) .

They are promoting themselves heavily and have some pretty good purses with
not a lot of competitors. They race at 22 tracks across US and Canada.
