Re: [RC] Middleton Horses needing rescue and transport This is additional question - Lynne Glazer

Here's another report with a lot of phone numbers, maybe you could contact one of them?
---

?Dear Debbie,

?Just wanted to give you a report about my trip to Teresa Sanders'
?Ranch in Middletown on Thursday.? I had forgotten what the road is
?like. Even with "zero effort steering and brakes" on my van, it was a
?difficult drive; about 5 hours round trip.? I'm still trying to catch
?up on my rest, otherwise I would have written sooner.

?Where but at a horse show could you see 50 or so purebred Arabians at
?once.? Talk about "eye candy"........but here most of them were
?running free.? To see maybe 15 or 20 foals frolicking with their
?bushy tails held high, and four or five stallions with their bands
?all in close, peaceful? proximity was a real treat and something most
?people will never get a chance to see.? It is only when you get up
?close can you see how the lack of rations has taken its toll. It has
?been a long time since they have seen a brush or comb, but I
?was? pleasantly impressed with the condition of their
?hooves.? Equally impressed with conformation.? These are beautiful
?horses.? In fact I purchased a lovely chestnut mare in foal and due
?to deliver any day.? Oh my!!!

?The big problem is of course food and homes.? Teresa has to have
?these horses out of there by August 1st or the animal welfare people
?will either destroy them or sell them at auction for dog food.? A
?HORRIBLE fate they don't deserve.? Only 22 days left!? But while we
?try to find homes, these horses need feed.? These nursing and
?pregnant mares - and most? of them are both - need proper
?nutrition.? This is the first time in my whole life I have seen
?horses eating manure!? I can't tell you how it broke my heart!

?Please, please - even if people can not afford to buy one of these
?beautiful animals for $300 - make a donation for feed at Rainbow AG
?in Lower Lake.? Call Keith, the manager, at 707-279-0550.? He will
?take credit card donations in Teresa Sanders' name.? CJS Ranch Supply
?in Middletown was horrible - wouldn't take a credit card over the
?phone or an out of town check.

?Even if people don't want to buy a horse or enlarge their "family" on
?a permanent basis - can't we find temporary homes until we can get
?them a "forever home" where they will be loved and properly taken care
of?
?I don't know how many? members there are in the club, or even
?non-members who have room to board just one horse temporarily.? There
?about 40 mares, foals and stallions who haven't been spoken for as of
?today.? I pray we can find a solution to their plight before they are
?destroyed.

?It was a joy to meet Sydni and Melissa.? They are lovely, generous
?and devoted ladies - not to mention very capable and
?knowledgeable.? I can't tell you how impressed I am. After working
?all day, taking care of their own families and horses, in 100 degree
?weather - they have the devotion to drive a four horse trailer up
?that long and winding road bringing a load of alfalfa, and then
?hauling the mares, foals and stallions back to Santa Rosa.? They get
?back after midnight, have to check out the horses get them feed and
?bedded down - and then home and to bed. They have been paying the
?expenses for this all by themselves.? I don't have to tell everyone
?how expensive gas is these days.? I think they figure about $60 per
?run just in gas.? They are on the phone almost constantly trying to
?find homes.? They really deserve a big star after their names in
?Heaven's Book.

?Mrs. Markoff also deserves a big star.? I am looking forward to
?meeting this generous and lovely lady who has given so much.? And my
?thanks to George Logvy as well.? I just know John and my Dad are
?cheering us on up by The Rainbow Bridge.

?Please cross post this if you think it might help those beautiful
?creatures.? Sorry it is so long.? I've left a lot unsaid as it is not
?up to me to judge; I just hope this situation never happens
?again.? I've contacted a lot of people and spread the word, including
?the Novato Horsemen's.? Are there other "all breed"? organizations in
?Sonoma and Napa counties? and farther north who might be a good
resource?

?Syndi? has been doing a great job as "point gal".? You can reach her
?at 707-396-3861 ( or 707-546-6520) and please send donations to her
?at 1335 South Wright Road, Santa Rosa.? I am not sure of the zip, but
?maybe 95404.? Donations for feed at 707-279-0550, Keith at Rainbow
?AG.? I tried to get him to give me a sale price, but no go - but keep
?up the pressure.

?Teresa Sanders is difficult to reach, but keep trying at
?707-987-3423, 707-987-2635 or at her newspaper 707-987-3602.

?It is my constant prayer that we can save these exquisite Arabians;
?they deserve a much better fate!

?Thanks again for all your help, Debbie -
?Barbara
