RE: [RC] Beet pulp - heidi

Sure the glucose does that.  But so do the VFAs from the hindgut that was properly stocked on Thursday and that is properly stimulated by the addition of beet pulp, grass, hay, water, etc.

FWIW, I don't carry a thing for my horses on the saddle with me, and never have, even in my competitive days.  There wasn't a thing I could carry that held a candle to stopping for a couple of minutes and eating grass.

Now, I DO carry a bunch of stuff for ME--but then I don't have a hindgut to fuel me (despite the fact that I have NOT slimmed down so am NOT a hottie and still LOOK like I might have a humungous one hidden in there somewhere....)

Heidi

PS:  But good for you, Susan, for not looking like you have a hindgut--you go, girl!

On the beet pulp thing again, I'm not suggesting that glucose is a remedy
for a sick horse, but that a steady intake of carbs throughout a ride will
keep him going, drinking, and eating so that remedial measures are less likely
to be needed. I'm betting of all you folks that carry horse food on your saddle
to be fed out on the trail, nobody carries a bag of beet pulp. Probably more
like a bag of grain, horse cookies, carrots, etc.,. These things have carbs in
them, and for good reason.
