Re: [RC] New name for Kentucky WEG - Truman Prevatt

I can see it now - instead of wearing you countries colors you wear your sponsor's logo. However, some strange things can happen. In the '92 Olympics was the first time true professional athletics could participate in the Olympics. The IOC had been lifting the restrictions on enforcements for quite awhile but in '92 they just finally stopped the charade and allowed pros. This was the year of the "Dream Team" the US basketball team of NBA all-stars. Of course they creamed the rest of the world - winning every game by an average of 44 points - doing a lot of "showboating" along the way. But the most interesting thing was to see how the drama of their personal endorsements played out against the backdrop of Olympic sponsorship.

About half the team had personal endorsements with one sports shoe company. Another large sports shoe company was a sponsor of the Olympics. Under the endorsement contracts they had to wear the sponsors logo. Under the IOC sponsorship contract they could not wear a competitors logo. That's why every time you saw Magic Johnson in an TV interview he was very careful to have hid behind his team jacket to cover the Nike logo he wore.

My my sports gets interesting when it sells out.

I guess the sponsorship is nice, but I kinda liked the old name. For
most people, it was a pretty good clue that this was a world-class
horse event. For the average citizen who doesn't know what FEI is,
it makes it sound like some kind of state championship in some
unknown competition".
