[RC] SERA/SEDRA Distance Award Program - Truman Prevatt

In distance riding people are riding shorter distances - not stepping up to the historical challenges that defined the disciplines. In endurance the historical challenge is is the one day 100 mile ride ride and in CTR it is the 3 day 100 mile ride based on the cavalry test. Today the comfort zone is the 50 mile endurance ride and the 25 mile CTR.

The Southeast Endurance Riders Association (SERA) and the SouthEast Distance Riders Association (SEDRA) announces a program that is targeted to change this paradigm. To quote from the first paragraph of the document that defines this award,

"The sports of Endurance Riding and Competitive Trail were based on an ultimate challenge for horse and rider. The Three Day 100 mile CTR was based on the Cavalry Remount test. The one-day 100 mile endurance ride was based on the quest to determine if a horse and rider could safely ride 100 miles in one day. The two-day 100 mile endurance ride evolved later as a different but equally challenging event. The Pioneer endurance ride has been the most recent addition to distance riding and is based on multiple consecutive days of at least 50 miles each day. They are all long distance rides that test the horse's ability and condition and the riders horsemanship."

SERA/SEDRA is proud to announce an award based on riding long distances in the sports of distance riding. Details will become available from both SERA and SEDRA in the near future. The goal is simple - to change the current paradigm and get people out of their comfort zone where will step up and meet the challenges that have made distance the ultimate challenge in equestrian sports. Once they do so, they may never be the same.

Stay tuned for details.
