[RC] fear - terre

From: "Dave Smith" <DSMITH@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

In another incarnation, I did hang gliding, lots of hang gliding, often
soaring for hours more than a mile above the earth. It was during that
period of my life that I came to understand that fear is our most
misunderstood emotion. Fear, I came to understand, is what keeps us from
doing something really stupid and killing ourselves. Indeed, it was while
climbing in great lazy circles up the side of a cliff when I didn't feel
some degree of fear that I got scared, realizing that I could lull myself
into some situation that I couldn't get out of.

In another incarnation, I used to do a bit of whitewater rafting. My favourite 'guide' used to always take out a stick of gum to chew just before we hit the 'big ones'. I asked him why, and he said "the day my mouth isn't dry is the day I quit." (He was responsible for getting us ALL thru it.)
