[RC] Using "cheapie" cotton saddle pads with English saddles - Karen Casemier

I'm riding in an English VSD style saddle right now. While I'm really trying to spend money on lovely nice pads ;>) the saddle is not agreeing with me. When I use a thin, inexpensive, plain cotton pad, I get lovely even sweat marks. When I attempted to use a beautiful, thick fleeceworks pad, my saddle wouldn't stay put - the pad was simply too thick. When I used a 3/8" shaped felt pad, I got uneven sweat marks, so even that thickness of pad was altering the saddle fit.

The only concern I have with using just the plain old $20 cotton quilted pads is that they are soaked through with sweat after a 10-15 mile training ride. Given the price tag on these pads, I was thinking when I actually do a ride, I could switch out pads at the vet check. Should I be concerned about heat build up if the pad is getting soaked through? I thought about a Dixie Midnight, but I'm afraid that will also alter the saddle fit somewhat.

Ideas? Suggestions?
