[RC] spot-on fly treatment dangers? - Mary Krauss

My cat almost died after being treated with a spot-on flea treatment last year. Our vet said that the stuff would not be on the market were there an FDA for animals because they so often react with seizures and even death to this stuff. In fact, many brands are now being pulled, some by choice by manufacturers, some by force of law. Just last week my mother's Maine Coon cat spent 3 days in intensive care because he reacted to some sort of prescribed spot-on treatment. I won't be using this stuff on any living creature ever again. It's way too good to be true, really. I don't see how something dripped here and there could make the whole horse distasteful to flies without doing something pretty extreme to the whole horse.... Before anyone starts going on about how wonderful the stuff is, I know it's probably great for those beasties who don't have a bad reaction. I'm just saying I personally would be pretty reluctant to take the risk.
