it's fairly complicated here but in essence, no need for pure blood/breed
but you need to prove who the parents are
which generally means that for a foal born in France you need to declare
the actual covering of the mare at the time by stallion X, who ofcourse needs to
be registered himself.. and then do the paperwork when the foal is born.
Depending on stud books there may be a blood test before final papers are
issued- for arabs that's the case
For cross breeds they are registered in different 'stud books' .. they may
be 'french saddle horse' or 'french saddle pony ' or 'half arab' etc etc
the real problem starts when you import a horse to France which is
registered with a stud book NOT recognised here - I believe people with US
quarter horses went thru this shit a while ago ( since been 'recognised' I
believe) -so.. they couldn't have the horse registered in France as a QH but had
to choose some sort of 'unkown breed' register - and lose their US papers if
they wanted to compete or breed here.
Being Dutch myself I imported my first arab from Holland years ago - Dutch
arab studbook recognised in France so got him registered here in order to
compete. HOWEVER, they kept the Dutch papers and horse is now considered French
(pisses me off!) and has his set of french papers.
A while back I though it would be fun to go to Holland to do a ride (
that's only 400 kms away!!) - well I couldn't because I had to ask the French
federation for permission to compete a french horse abroad and get him an FEI
passport! I have to have my french licence in order to compete here ( 100$
approx. for rides of less than100 kms) - so now I am considered french
too..
drives me mad all these new rules & regulations...
enjoy the US system ( while it lasts...)!!!!
cheers
Pauline

[RC] half arab x arab cross
Hi Pauline,
I have a
question. When you said all horses participating must be = registered. Do
they are need to be pure blood? Here in the USA, land on = free enterprise,
and anything for a buck, we even have a grade horse = registry. If someone
thought they could make a dollar on it, there would = be a dead horses
registry. So you could register your favorite horse = even after it has
pasted away.
You said all horses participating must be registered. In
France can you = register all horses? Just curious !
