I've included some mare lines to folks who have posted me privately, but will include some here.  Any of the Davenport mares.  *Wadduda gets particular press, but I'll take any of 'em (*Reshan, *Urfah, *Werdi, I've surely forgotten somebody).  Follyat, any time.  *Ferda, who traces back to the Blunt mare Ferida.  (When AHA first started putting together an on-line access, some of the racing people got a "preview" and applied some of the TB pedigree analysis systems--and *Ferda came up as "the" dam line to have.  She is also well represented in the Tevis/Haggin winner pool, if memory serves--not sure where I've got my notes from looking at the dam lines of all of those pedigrees as well.)  Purtnear any of the Blunt mares, although Rodania in particular comes to mind.  (BTW, two of the foundation Blunt mares came up with the same mtDNA as two of the Davenport mares--further emphasizing the historical connection between Blunt sources and Davenport sources...)

 

I'm not as "up" on some of the foundation mares of other early entities, but that's the drift of it...

Since all the Mitochondria come from the mare, her dam and so on back to the tail mare, much of the important genetics making an endurance horse depends on the mare.   This discussion, as is usual, has centered on the Stallions.

 

Who do you like for a tail mare?
