RE: [RC] banned substances-Yucca - heidi

Yucca isn't banned due to being a nutrient in megadoses--it is banned because it contains a drug.  Yucca has long been a natural pain reliever because it contains a variety of compounds of the salicylate family--same stuff that is refined to be aspirin.  So there shouldn't be any vagueness about yucca--it contains a banned substance, so it is banned.

There are plenty of hoof supplements, joint supplements, etc. out there that don't contain it--good thing not to have opened the container, as hopefully you can take it back and trade for one that doesn't contain yucca.

Heidi

I just received a container of hoof supplement that contains Yucca
Schidigera.  The amount is 50 mg per oz.  I have reviewed the AERC policy
that addresses banned substances, but it is unclear about Yucca and other
nutrient substances.  The policy states that mega dose are not allowed, but
smaller doses are.  The difference is in treatment goals; anti-inflammatory
vs. source of sulfur. I believe the hoof supplement I purchased is
permissible, but I am checking with the list before I open the container.
Thank you in advance for your help!
