RE: [RC] Prineville Barefoot! - now Tevis - Sue Walz

Hi Jonni,

I plan to glue & nail plastic shoes on Raven for Tevis. That's what we did in '04 & it worked great. With Raven's gaits boots & nailed shoes fly off easily. The plastic shoes are less bulky than boots so less stumbling. You want a sure footed horse on the Tevis trail!
Boots at Sunriver are problematic in that they'll be full of sand in no time. Same reason I wouldn't boot on the beach. Sand is ideal barefoot footing. Anyway, the more miles you put on bare the tougher the hoofs become.

The terrain is better than Prineville for bare. The ride flyer says shoes required. Please give us a chance. I boot at the first sign of tenderness. Trust us, we care deeply about our horses & feel we are doing what's best for them.<<<

Curious what you plan to do for Tevis, since they also require hoof
protection. If you are using boots there, just wondering why you would not
try the boots at Sunriver to make sure you have any and all of the bugs
worked out for 100 miles.
