Re: [RC] REfrigerators - Laney Humphrey

In my experience with a Dometic in an older LQ, the fridge works best if the trailer is level. And, if you travel a lot in dusty areas, remove the outside door and blow out the dust periodically.

There are two main manufacturers for RV fridges: Dometic and Norcold.

My experience has been the exact opposite of yours, Becky. I have a Norcold 2-way now and it’s worked like a champ.

I had a Lance camper that had a 3-way Dometic and the main unit went out and was horribly expensive to repair. The interesting part of the story was we had to repair it rather than replace it because the refrigerator couldn’t be removed from the camper since the fridge was put in before the back of the camper was put in when it was originally built. That’s what we were told but I always wondered. That just doesn’t seem to be a sensible design.

I do keep a small RV fridge fan in the unit and it really helps to keep air circulating and the contents cold especially when traveling in hotter climates.
