Re: [RC] Bucked Off - Question - Barbara Moulton

you forgot to add close your eyes and say your prayers
:-)

Joy bolted out from under me once as a backed a few
times two year old ( don't flame ! the guy I bought
her from said she was almost 4) when after a chemo
brain moment of nostalgia I wondered if I could swing
up bareback at 40 like I used to do when I was a kid
while she was busy hand grazing in a deep ditch in
june of 2000. I landed on my back and knew I had to
get back on so I took her to the fence to try to get
on bareback. ( she had a scratch on her shoulder and I
didn't want to put a saddle on) Just then one of the
ranch cowboys came for lunch and like a gentleman
offered his assistance. I am a heavyweight since
gaining 60lbs in chemo but his pride was bigger so he
let go of her halter to give me a two handed leg up
and Joy thinking this was a fun new game popped off
two or three bucks. I rode out about 1 and a half did
a perfect flip over her head and landed flat on my
back where she promptly nuzzled my face just like a
toddler who throws his toys and giggles "again mommy".
Cowboy K was very apologetic he swung up and rode her
then let me use the fence like I wanted to and I rode
her around the pasture as well. Later in Feb 01 when
we were trail riding regularly, I was very gymped up
myself with undiagnosed leg pain and not thinking
about what happened in June put her in the ditch again
to make mounting my English saddle easier. Like I
heard Parelli say once it was rootie-toot-toot, open
the chute. As soon as her head went down and I felt
the first pop starting I shut my eyes expecting to
land on the hard road. I don't know how long it
lasted but when she stopped moving and I dared to look
we were clear over on the south side of the double
driveway and had cut a path like a tornado for at
least 400 feet. The only explaination I can think of
is the hand of God held me in the saddle and since God
looks out for fools and children and I am and then was
a grandma I can't claim the child card. :-) ps. I did
think I needed to continue to ride so she wouldn't get
the idea that a rodeo was the ticket out of work so at
a walk with a death grip on her thick mane we took the
shortest bad weather loop ride we usually did about 3
miles- no incidents.
