Re: [RC] rider not entered in ride - Laney Humphrey

I really believe that this newbie just did not know the rules. And being "paced" is the furthest thing from her mind. She just wants the company of someone she knows and trusts. It is really too bad that she hasn't found an AERC mentor and/or doesn't realize that it isn't hard to find someone to ride with at most rides. It's also too bad it didn't occur to her to just pay her friend's ride entry so they could ride together. I hope it works out for her and that someone will taker her under their wing and help her learn how to do things. She really wasn't trying to cause trouble and went to some effort to try to find out if what she wanted to do would be allowed. She got quite a bit of incorrect advice along the way.

I get frustrated when an organization has a lot of rules but this is exactly why we have to put up with rules...people don't want to play fair! Why would a person (a newbie) new to a sport think that they don't have to follow the rules? Why does she need a horse to pace with her? Can't she find someone to ride with that is participating in the ride? I like to ride with another person for my horses sake as well as my own but I find someone to ride with and then you get to meet and have time to get to know others participating in the sport.

If she gets DQ'ed she will complain about our sport and the people involved. If she completes the ride and ride management doesn't realize what went on then the problem will become bigger if she continues to compete and doesn't think she has to follow the rules. I don't want people like this participating.
