[RC] Enzyme Absorption - Bruce Weary DC

Hi Ed--
The best explanation I have found for how enzymes are absorbed and utilized is in a book titled "Enzymes : The Foundation of Life" by Lopez, Williams and Miehlke. It will tell you more than you probably wanted to know. Basically, some of the enzymes are indeed affected by the stomach digestion process. They are however, enterically coated to help escape that process, and that's probably why larger doses are required. Also, some enzymes are absorbable intact, and others are protected by carrier molecules, according to these authors. I'm not a biochemist, but enzyme therapy is widely regarded as a viable and reproducible therapy around the world, although not as well known here in the States. The literature on the subject is extensive, and would probably be very interesting to you. Hope this helps. Dr Q
