RE: [RC] [RC] LASIK (was Did you know??) - Amber B Fort

OMGosh, I hadn't even thought about being able to swim with out the worry of losing a lense.  I really wish all I had to do was the Lasik procedure.

However, with my severe nearsightedness (-8 in both eyes in contacts, 'What chart?"), Doc said it would be pushing the envelope for Lasik.  + the problem of the cateracts, so will be getting the lense implants.  So it looks like I will be going for my post op stuff on the 11th, surgery for left eye on the 18th, right eye on the 25th.

At one time I did have the astigmatisms in both eyes, however about 5 years ago, they self corrected.  Never knew that could happen and was thankfull that it did.

However, if you are nearsighted in both eyes, correcting one to 20/15 or 20/20 and correcting the other somewhat less will preserve you close vision (or improve it!) even when you are losing it due to age. I had the first eye LASIK'd to 20/15 last year, then corrected the other one to about 20/30 just a few months ago and I can still read 6 pt type as long as the light is halfway decent. I expect (at age 50) to get at least 5 more years without resorting to reading glasses. Prior to the second correction, I was using reading glasses about 50% of the time. Now, no problem. I can't wait to go swimming this summer without worrying about losing a contact lens!

Thanks for speaking up, I didn't realize those were different conditions!
