[RC] Kenlyn Urban Challenge - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

Okay... I admit it... I was a real skeptic. I'd attendend the "Kenlyn Flat I"
in May 1997 and, although I found the ride very well managed, I didn't see much
future in the "venue" and put it on my list of "been-there-done-that" rides
that I'd probably never return to. Face it: we were basically riding in the
Denver suburbs and residential / commercial development was expanding so
quickly that I didn't see how the ride could survive.

But a few weeks ago I realized that the drought conditions in our area might
really limit my ride options this summer... so I decided to give Kenlyn - this
time the "Kenlyn Urban Challenge" - another chance.

I was very, very pleasantly surprised to learn that things had definitely
changed for the better. There's been a real concentration on the development
of "open space" in the Aurora/Denver area. Permanent horse trails have been
developed and it's obvious that Linda Fisher (ride manager for the Kenlyn Urban
Challenge)has been intimately involved. We were routed through 25 miles of
permanent horse trails (repeated twice for the 50 milers). Yes, there were
lots of houses, a couple of interesting bridges to navigate, and a couple of
overpasses to pass under, but it was a really enjoyable trail.

I believe that Linda is to be commended for working so hard to help develop an
urban trail system. Obviously, we may need to utilize more of these types of
trails in the future.

As for me, this ride is now on my list of "do-it-if-you-can" rides.
