RE: [RC] pet peeve-different opinion - Lori Bertolucci

Kassandra, not all of us are bothered by a rider tagging along.
I have even offered my horses backend to riders that are obviously having probelms where their horses need company. Gambler is good with other horses behind him, and even seems happy to lead the way.  I am careful to make sure the horse following is settling in before I pick up my speed, and slow down should the rider have any trouble. Now mind you, I only ride to finish, so can see that making a difference to others. And the company so far has been fun!

Isn?t there an old saying ?.You cant get mad at someone for something they are doing if you don?t tell them it bothers you.  They may be tagging along because they want company and maybe, just maybe want to make a new friend.  I used to like meeting up with other riders at rides just to get to know them and make new friends, not even thinking they may resent my ?tagging along?.  Now I?ll think twice and ask ?permission?.  I was surprised that so many people resent it.  I thought the whole point of endurance rides was to see knew scenery and meet new people??

The most irrating thing to me is not only to have someone start tagging along but then begin to tell you how to ride your own ride!  I don't think so!  It is about then that I lose all or any tactfulness that I might have even had.  Jeanie
